Topic: Cathedral Ceiling Lighting?

Need ideas for lighting 30 foot cathedral ceiling in addition. Currently have 100 watt spotlights, which I don't like (they're too harsh), and they use lots of electricity. Do we have to put lighting in the ceiling? If so, are there more efficient and more aestheticly pleasing alternatives?
