Topic: adding windows to basement

We just bought a 3 year old house with a partially finished basement. We would like to make it a useable family room. We plan to add a fireplace and plenty of lights but are wondering if we should do the minimal egress window or go with a larger window. Expense is the issue but we want it to be a usable room.
