Topic: Can ceiling remain if roof trusses are removed for new 2nd Flr

I am adding a second floor to a ranch house on a slab. The current roof is trussed. Can the ceiling remain intact when the trusses are cut? One contractor told me that it all has to come down becuase it would not be structurally sound when the trusses are cut to add the new I-joists. Other contractors have not raised this issue. Please advise.
