Windows & doors in concrete block

I'm considering buying a small concrete block house. All of the windows and doors need to be replaced. It sounds like typical replacement windows are about $600 each, installed. Will installation in block require special windows? Are they more expensive for materials and/or installation? Is installing windows/doors in block a difficult process or something which I could tackle myself? Thanks for any information you can provide.
