I've been Googling all morning looking for information on replacement windows. My search is just beginning, and we will be getting quotes pretty soon.
The quotes that others have received vary widely - and I see some people getting quotes for $15K plus, but being told they shouldn't be paying more than $10k. I've also seen "per opening" prices.
I know it depends on what window I'm looking at, but how do I figure out whether I'm being really being gouged? Is there an average, ball-park range of some sort that will tell me when too much is too much? Like, $10/sq. foot for bottom-of-the-line, $20/sq. ft. middle-of-the-line, $30/sq, ft. for top-of-the-line - anything like that? Or am I really looking at per-opening estimates? All of my windows are drastically different sizes, but they come up to about 240 sq. ft. plus a 96x80 slider. We live in Southern California, and anything we get will be better than the windows we have in our 1983 home now.
