Big Window/Siding Project Advice

I have recently purchased a home built in 1923 that requires about 28 new windows (my last two heating bills were $750+) and siding. I'm not really concerned with aesthetics as much as I am concerned with energy savings and quality. I've done as much research as I can, but am still at a loss as to what options would work best for me. I am willing to pay for quality windows, but trying to avoid paying for for 'overkill'. Right now, I'm considering Marvin or Pella and would consider the Schuco based on what I have read on these boards.
Additionally, I am planning on replacing my old aluminum siding. Does it make sense to do this at the same time and would it potentially offer me a greater discount? Additionally, do you think I might be sacrificing a better window installer by looking for a contractor that would perform both jobs?
Any advice would be very helpful as well as recommendations for reliable quality contractors in Northern New Jersey (Essex County).
