Topic: Primer Cracked on New Caulk

I know I post a lot of questions but I just bought an old house and I am relatively young an inexperienced. I was hoping everyone would be kind enough to answer one more question. I am renovating the living room and there is one corner which was in bad shape. I had to use several coats of joint compound and finally in the inside corner I used a bead of paintable silicone caulk (about 1/2 inch thick) to make a nice smooth corner. I just primed it Sunday and last night I noticed that the primer had cracked. Any idea why this has happened? I have used caulk before and I had no problem like this. I put the house down to 45 degrees when I am not there (I don't live there yet). The caulk directions say above 40 so I don't know if that would cause it.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Tom
