I know similar questions have been asked, but I need a definitive answer. I have a 5 year old house that I want to paint. I am pretty sure the baseboards, door trim, etc. are painted with an alkyd enamel. I want to repaint, but don't want to use oil-based paints if possible due to the smell and clean-up. Can I just paint over them with a latex paint, or do I have to sand and paint with an oil-based primer first, as I've seen suggested on other posts? If I did re-paint with oil-based, could I just paint over them as is? If so, what specific kind of paint?
