Subject: Paint Over Rough Paneling?
Author: Cheryl Robinson

In our new home, the living room is paneled with dark wood paneling. I see several discussions posted on this subject, but most seem to be refering to 'smooth' paneling. I have 'rough/coarse' paneling in which gives the room a very casual, 'den-like' feel. I'd like to paint over the paneling to create a more traditional living room. What prep is need for this type of paneling? Do I need to sand to smooth it out or will the paint itself do the trick?
