Cutting a new doorway

A large window in my kitchen looks out over the screened in three-season porch. I would like to convert the window into a doorway and the porch into a year-round dining area. The house is an old tudor and the header of the window is a 6x6 piece of timber mortared into the brickwork and the height is higher than normal door height. I'll call a structural engineer prior to any work, however, how difficult is it to cut a doorway into a brick wall?
