Master Bedroom Makeover

Master Bedroom Makeover

A master bedroom is usually the largest room in the home and is typically occupied by the person or persons who head the household. You want a bedroom to be inviting, cozy and, most likely, a bit luxurious. Remodeling a bedroom is a chance to start fresh and incorporate new trends.

There are a lot of aspects to take into account when you’re designing or remodeling your master bedroom. Aim to create harmony and flow with your colors, pieces and lighting. See below to get some ideas and inspiration for your next bedroom makeover.

Bed Set

Bed & Bed Sets

The bedroom is one room where you can truly incorporate your personal style. At the same time, it’s easy to sprinkle in a few trends so you create a balance between what you love and what’s hot in bedroom design. You don’t always have to match pieces perfectly, but make sure they at least flow and complement each other.

The focal point of any bedroom is the bed set and bedding. Since we’re talking about a master bedroom, it’s likely that these items will be grandiose. Common bed frame materials are wood, metals, laminates and veneers. Colors and patterns are widely acceptable to include in your bedroom décor. Experts suggest you add texture if your goal is to create a warm and cozy feel.

Colors & Paint

If you’re passionate about a particular paint color and have to have it, then you should go for it. But if you like to follow the latest trends, I suggest you check out what Behr recommended as the 2015 bedroom color trends. They advise incorporating deep and bold colors in the bedroom. One suggestion they make is to paint the walls teal and add touches of gray and exotic fuchsia throughout the room.

Maybe you’re unsure exactly what you want, but you know you’re interested in creating a relaxing environment. If so, check out our article, How To Pick the Perfect Paint: The Psychology Of Colors, to guide you. Colors can instantly set mood, convey emotion, invoke a physiological reaction or inspire people to take action. The psychology of colors can be very important when it comes to selecting paint colors for the interior of a home, but many of us are not informed of the exact science behind the art of design and what colors represent.

Decor & Lighting

Décor & Lighting

Decorating your new bedroom should be a fun project! Remember that it’s your chance to personalize and pick items that you like. There are a few areas within décor you should really focus in on, most importantly, your color scheme. If you’re unsure, get some professional help with this one. Below is a list of other décor items you should think about incorporating.

My favorite thing about windows is the natural light they draw into a room. Don’t be afraid to dress them up by adding some stylish curtains. Overall, it’s important to pay attention to the details as you decorate.

Besides your bed and bed set, there are other possibilities when it comes to adding additional furniture to your master bedroom. If your room is large enough, some people find adding chairs, side tables or benches to be attractive additions. The goal here is to not let your room get too cluttered with stuff, but to add the right amount of detail so you create simple elegance. Now that you’ve built your dream bedroom, why not enjoy it! Think about adding a cozy chair or pouf and use the space to relax and read a good book.

A walk-in closet is every woman’s dream. I know there are also men out there who enjoy large closets for storing business clothes and dress shoes. Don’t underestimate the value of real estate saved for a master bedroom closet. Think of all the storage space you’ll be creating. A large closet will also make it easy to keep your clothes, accessories, shoes and jewelry organized.

Unique Additions

This is if you’re ready to get super fancy. Adding a fireplace in the master bedroom is not all that farfetched for some homeowners, although, adding a fireplace does have a price tag. Costs will vary depending on the specific type of fireplace you want to have installed.

Before you hire a company to install a fireplace for you, it’s necessary to check with your state government to ensure that fireplace permits are available. Some states have begun to limit the number of fireplace permits they will distribute to existing homes without fireplaces. They’re also beginning to require that fireplaces be included with new construction only.

Peaceful Bedroom

Create An Environment For Sleeping

Getting good sleep is one of the most important things for your health and wellbeing. Lack of sleep is also one of the top concerns for most Americans. Although this topic is covered last, it’s a critical factor in the master bedroom makeover process. This is your chance to fix any issues that may have been causing you to lose sleep in your old room.

The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) agrees. On their website they state, “Your bedroom is your sanctuary from the stresses of the day. Use your senses to create the best environment for sleep.” The NSF suggests using your senses to plan accordingly, including touch, see, hear, smell and taste. Check out their site for more details.

These are tips you should consider as you plan for a master bedroom makeover. It’s all about using the right mix of creativity and logic in your design. If you take the time to map out the details beforehand, you’ll be on your way to creating a comfortable and stylish place to rest your head.
