SPONSOR. ImproveNet’s DIY Repair Scholarship (“Contest") is sponsored by CraftJack, Inc., 825 Chicago Ave, Evanston, IL 60202 ("Sponsor"). This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook. By providing information pursuant to this Contest, you are providing information to Sponsor, not to Facebook.
CONTEST PERIOD. The Contest begins on February 1, 2014 at 12:00 a.m. Mountain Time, and ends on December 15, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time ("Contest Period"). All Entries must be submitted and received within the Contest Period to be valid and eligible for the Contest.
ELIGIBILITY. Entry in the Contest is open to persons aged 18 years of age or older who are legal U.S. residents, and who have been accepted to, or are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at any college, university or trade school in the United States. Employees of Sponsor, their immediate family members, and persons living in the same household as employees or their immediate family members are not eligible. The term "immediate family member" includes spouses, parents, grandparents, siblings, children and grandchildren. All federal, state and local laws apply. Limit one (1) Contest Entry per person.
HOW TO ENTER. To enter the Contest, entrants must submit an essay of at least 1,000 words, but no more than 2,000 words (“Essay”), on the following topic: “How to fix (blank)” where (blank) is a topic or project of your choosing but must be related to the interior or exterior of a home.
Entries must be submitted by emailing them to Scholarships@ImproveNet.com, and must include entrant’s (i) name, (ii) valid address, (iii) valid telephone number, (iv) valid email address, and (v) an Essay, as well as the name of the school that the entrant is enrolled in (or has been accepted to). Entries must be received during the Contest Period to be eligible for the Scholarship. By entering the Contest, entrants agree to follow and be bound by these Rules. All entries (including but not limited to the Essay, and any content or materials included within the Essay or the entry) become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. Entries, including any photos provided, may be used by the Sponsor for any lawful purpose without further permission of the entrants or any consideration apart from participation in the Contest in accordance with these Rules.
PRIZES. At the end of the Contest Period, a winner will be selected to receive $1,000, which can be applied to tuition, room and board, books or other schools supplies and expenses (the “Scholarship”). On or around January 31, 2015, ImproveNet shall select the Scholarship winner based upon the Essays submitted, which will be judged on the following criteria: Creativity and Originality (1/3); Overall Quality (1/3); and Relevance to Topic (1/3). Sponsor reserves the right to reject any entries where the Essay, or any other materials included in the entry, submitted by Entrant is, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, inappropriate, obscene, offensive, or otherwise violates the standards of good taste, or does not address the Topic. All taxes and other expenses related to any prize are the sole responsibility of the Scholarship winner.
WINNERS. The Scholarship winner may be required to execute an affidavit of eligibility, a release of any and all liability from any claims for damages, losses or injury against Sponsor and/or any of its agents or contractors arising from participation in the Contest or acceptance and use of the Scholarship, a confirmation of entrant's assignment of rights to the submitted entry materials, unless otherwise prohibited, and the entry materials, and such other forms as the Sponsor may require, including any information required for tax reporting purposes. For a winner list, please contact Sponsor at the address set forth above. The Winner hereby grants Sponsor the right to disclose the Winner’s name publicly as the Winner of this Contest.
The Scholarship must be claimed within seven days of notification, and winner's affidavit and related forms must be returned executed within seven days of receipt. If the Scholarship is not claimed within seven days of notification or if the selected winner is found to not meet all of these Contest Rules or fails to timely provide required releases and documentation as set forth above, Sponsor will select another Scholarship winner based on the above criteria. If another winner is selected, any previously selected winner will have no rights to the Scholarship, or any other Contest benefits. This process may be repeated until the Scholarship has been awarded to a fully-qualifying entrant.
RELEASE AND INDEMNITY. Every entry submitted becomes the exclusive property of Sponsor, and Sponsor may therefore use and otherwise publicly display the Winner’s entry in any manner or medium, including displaying the photo submitted by the Entrant on Sponsor’s Facebook banner. By participating in the Contest, each entrant agrees to release and hold Sponsor and Facebook harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with or resulting from participation in the Contest and/or acceptance, possession, or use of any prizes including, without limitation, personal injuries, death, property damages. Entrants further agree to indemnify and defend Sponsor and Facebook from and against any and all claims relating to entrant's entry, any photo submitted by Entrant and any use of such entry or photos by Sponsor, or relating to entrant's breach of any of these Rules, including without limitation claims by third parties or otherwise based on intellectual property rights, publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy. Winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements of these Rules, and Sponsor's decisions as to the administration of the Contest and prize awards are final.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Sponsor is not responsible for problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers computer equipment, software, failure of any email to be received by the Sponsor on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this Contest. Under no circumstances will Sponsor award more prizes than the prizes set forth above. In the event that any erroneous duplicative awarding of prizes occurs, the error shall be corrected and the prize awarded to the proper winner based on the criteria set forth above. If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, in Sponsor’s sole judgment, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, legal challenges, unanticipated volume of entries, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contest, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the Contest, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest. Any disputes relating to this Contest or any prizes awarded in connection with the Contest shall be resolved individually without any resort to any form of class action, and any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out of pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Contest. Under no circumstances shall any entrant be permitted to obtain awards for other damages or have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. SOME JURISDICTIONS MAY PROHIBIT OR LIMIT EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE FOREGOING LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
JURISDICTION. Any dispute that may arise here under shall be brought solely in the appropriate state or federal court sitting in the State of Illinois, and entrants consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue of such court.
