Fall weather means lattes, football, apple picking and one of my personal favorites, Halloween. Decorating your home is a fun and festive way to get you in the spirit of the holiday.

Anyone who is a DIYer knows that half the battle is coming up with what project you think you can manageably tackle. Forget the orange plastic pumpkins and artificial cobwebs. These DIY Halloween decorations are spooky, sophisticated and sure to impress.

Grab some spray paint, pumpkins, your creativity and get to work! Use polka dots, patterns and solids to make stylish and flashy pumpkins to display in your home or front porch. As you can see in the image, the upgraded pumpkins turned out fabulous.

A coat of metallic spray will spruce up your stark orange pumpkins in no time for a warm and inviting appearance. Don’t be afraid to layer paint and mix and match colors.

Wine Glasses

After your pumpkins are done, find your paint supplies and get ready to make some beautiful wine glasses. FolkArt Enamels is a water-based paint that is best for painting glass. It’s available in many colors in just about any craft store. When dried and set, it’s even top-shelf dishwasher safe!

Before you start painting, make sure you thoroughly wash your glassware in warm, soapy water and let it dry completely. Place masking tape along the outer edge so you remember to leave at least three quarters of an inch of the rim paint free. Gather some stencils, or freehand it if you dare, and start creating your masterpiece!

Metallic & Glitter

How fantastic is this metallic skeleton? It’s definitely fancier than the white bones you’re used to seeing. If you want something smaller, you can even make a metallic skeleton wreath! Get to your nearest store and purchase miniature skeletons, four feet of pipe insulation (or a craft store wreath if you’re fancy), duct tape, a glue gun and some metallic silver or black spray paint, and you'll be on your way to making a fabulous and spooky skeleton.

Sure, you can paint your pumpkins, but glitter will bring them to a whole new level of fun. It’s a great project for the kids because it’s easy and entertaining. Glitter will last longer than carved pumpkins as well. Buy some spray adhesive, colored glitter and brown craft paint for the stem so you can get to work!

Bat Doormat

Lights & Doormats

Why buy a doormat when you can make a festive one yourself? This bat doormat is a unique and clever way to bring the spirit of Halloween to the exterior of your home without going overboard. If you’re interested in giving it a shot, you can click here to get the DIY guide.

Another cute idea is to craft vases with branches and lights. It's an excellent way to set the mood during Halloween. Most stores sell these items separately, so you can pick and choose exactly how you want the end product to look.

Candles & Mason Jars

Decorate your mantel with tasteful letter banners or candles. Take a look at these stylish DIY chic pumpkin candle holders I found that are sure to liven up your home! If this isn’t your style and you’d like a spookier option, you can make gauzed mummy candles as shown above. Be sure to add some googly eyes for the full effect!

Mason Jars

I thought these candy corn mason jars with black flowers were percet for Halloween! They're attractive, creative and something different from the typical vase and flowers you see. All you need to complete this project are a few mason jars, spray paint and plastic flowers.

Get creative this fall and do something different and chic with your home holiday décor. All of these suggestions are projects you can do in the comfort of your own home. The best part is that when people start admiring your artistic designs you’ll be able to tell them you did it yourself!
