Aluminum Panel Siding Cost Guide

Aluminum siding is one of the various types of planking materials used to protect and insulate a home. Although vinyl is the most popular option for siding, aluminum is very popular for trimming since it has a relative low cost and can be bent to a desired shape and size with ease. Most of the new home siding installations have vinyl siding with aluminum trim pieces.

Cost of Aluminum Panel Siding

  • Minimum Cost : $3.37

  • Maximum Cost: $6.23

The cost of aluminum panel siding can vary based on the quality of the material. However, the price generally ranges from approximately $3.37 to $6.23 per square foot of material. Other costs to consider are the labor and supplies that are required to install the siding. The labor costs for the installation of aluminum panel siding ranges from about $34 to $42 per hour. The labor hours generally also include the time for setting up the job, site fabrication, surface patching and cleanup upon completion. In addition, the supplies and necessary tools required to complete the installation will vary between roughly $415 and $480 for a typical home that requires 1,500 square feet of siding.

Advantages of Aluminum Panel Siding

The primary advantage of aluminum siding, as well as the reason why it is so popular, is that it requires a minimum amount of maintenance. Repairing scratches and dents is the most common type of maintenance. Otherwise, the general maintenance is basically a fresh coat of paint every 10 to 20 years, which can extend the lifetime of the siding. Another advantage is that aluminum siding is easier to repair than vinyl siding due to the nature of the material. Dents can usually be pounded out with a hammer, and any scratches can just be repainted. In addition, aluminum siding can be repainted easily, while most manufacturers do not recommend painting vinyl siding.

Aluminum siding provides much better insulation. However, proper insulation must be installed between the layers to maximize its efficiency. Aluminum siding is much more flexible. It can better withstand hot and cold temperature extremes. Aluminum siding can easily be recycled when it has reached the end of its useful life. It has a high resistance to fire, and the odds of harmful gas release are minimal.

Disadvantages to Aluminum Panel Siding

The primary disadvantage of aluminum panel is that it can easily be dented or scratched from heavy rain or hail. This damage is usually quite noticeable, and it can be difficult to replace the aluminum panels. Another disadvantage of aluminum siding is that rain, sleet, hail and tree branches hitting against the siding can cause a significant amount of noise. Finally, aluminum panel siding conducts heat in hot weather and can be extremely hot to the touch.
