How Much Does Vinyl Fascia Cost?
Vinyl fascia is widely used on homes because of its durability, ease of installation and variety of colors available. The acceptance of building code standards for soffit material is one reason for its simple installation. Vinyl fascia components should be installed alongside any other vinyl installation project for faster and more cost-effective installation.
The Costs
-
Minimum Cost: $5.00 per linear foot
-
Maximum Cost: $8.00 per linear foot
Materials
The installation of vinyl flashing along the trim will help with the expansion of wood when it's exposed to moisture. The flashing also helps to prevent infiltration of water that could lead to damage in the interior of the home. Vinyl flashing is used instead of metal because the components make a better fit to the fascia. Vinyl flashing can come in the form of a ledger board or as a roll. A roll of flashing is traditionally installed with a vinyl adhesive and approved screws that won't rust or mar the surface of the fascia.
There are a few options when it comes to vinyl trim. The fascia can be applied diagonally or as a straight trim. The fascia panel can also be secured to the underside of the fascia. It can also be installed using either a closed or open eave. This allows for installation on either a ranch style home or a steeply-pitched colonial. Trim styles come in a multitude of colors and can match existing architecture such as a gable attic vent.
J and F channels are components used on siding products as well as in the installation of vinyl fascia. Vinyl F channel components are installed along the roofline to brace the soffit and fascia along a channel for stability. A J-channel is installed along the eaves to allow for the final closure of the vinyl fascia. F-channels basically connect the soffit to the fascia and J-channels connect the fascia to the final contact point below the eaves of the roof.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Vinyl Fascia
Vinyl fascia is one of the easiest types of fascia to install over a wood substrate on the home. It is a rigid component that offers durability and long-lasting qualities that reduce annual maintenance. The soffit joints in the fascia kit are well defined for DIY installers and contractors. Vinyl fascia is also the most affordable component and is easy to repair. Damage to a component from wind or storms can easily be fixed by finding the exact component from any big box store or hardware store.
A downside to this style of fascia is that it needs to be installed using J and F channel components due to expansion and contraction of seasonal changes. Added humidity requires a tight seal against the home to prevent water from coming up underneath the channel supports. Vinyl fascia is also prone to similar effects that vinyl siding incurs from sunlight. UV radiation will fade colors randomly, depending on the amount of shade or sun certain sides of the home receive. This may require additional maintenance to provide a sealant that can limit or slow down the progression of color fading. White fascia will fade less quickly.
